Q. How does the HydroGenie create Hydrogen gas?

A. The HydroGenie uses a proprietary designed generator that utilizes Alkaline Water Electrolysis to break apart the components of Water into Hydrogen (2 parts) and Oxygen (1 part) creating a steady flow of Brown’s Gas. A food-grade electrolyte is used to allow DC (Direct Current) to flow in the generator, disassociating the water into its parts.

Q. What type of gas is produced by the HydroGenie?

A. The HydroGenie produces Brown’s Gas, which is a mixed gas composed of 67% Hydrogen and 33% Oxygen, corresponding to the water molecule H2O. This is sometimes also called “HHO”. In addition, the HydroGenie also produces Electrically Expanded Water (ExW) which has been shown to have very powerful effects on the human body.

Q. How much Hydrogen is produced?

A. At startup, at room temperature, the HydroGenie produces 400 ml/min of mixed gas. 267 ml/min of Hydrogen and 133 ml/min of Oxygen. Once it has reached its maximum operating temperature, up to 850 ml/min of mixed gas is delivered. That is 567 ml/min of Hydrogen and 283 ml/min of Oxygen.

Q. What is Brown’s Gas and why is it different from pure hydrogen?

A. Brown’s Gas (also known as oxyhydrogen or HHO) is the natural product of water electrolysis—a stoichiometric mixture of 66% hydrogen and 33% oxygen in a 2:1 ratio. This composition offers therapeutic advantages beyond pure hydrogen alone. Research has demonstrated that hydrogen-oxygen mixture therapy can provide benefits that pure hydrogen delivery methods may not achieve on their own. The gas is named after Professor Yull Brown, a Bulgarian-Australian inventor who refined oxyhydrogen technology in the mid-20th century.

Q. What is Electrically Expanded Water (ExW)?

A. Electrically Expanded Water (ExW) is a unique energy-rich component created during the electrolysis process. Research suggests that the electrical charge characteristics and specific production method of Brown’s Gas may create additional beneficial properties. This composition provides broader therapeutic applications compared to pure hydrogen alone, particularly for dermatological applications and respiratory therapies.

Q. What’s included with my HydroGenie purchase?

A. The HydroGenie comes complete with everything you need to start immediately: one (1) Water Infusion attachment (infusion stone), one (1) Application Cup, two (2) Nasal Cannulas, one (1) 6-foot Extension Hose, one (1) Electrolyte Packet, and an Operation Manual. No water is supplied with the unit.

Q. How long does setup take?

A. Extremely easy setup—less than 3 minutes from opening the box and you’re enjoying Molecular Hydrogen! Simply add the electrolyte and distilled water, and you’re ready to go.

Q. What type of water should I use?

A. Use only distilled water. Tap water contains dissolved minerals, chlorine, and other impurities that can contaminate the gas output, reduce electrode efficiency, and damage the electrolysis cell over time. Distilled water ensures that the only gases produced are hydrogen and oxygen—nothing else.

Q. What is the electrolyte and how do I use it?

A. The electrolyte (typically a potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide solution) serves as the ionic conductor that enables the electrochemical reactions. Simply add the included electrolyte packet to your distilled water reservoir. The electrolyte enhances electrolysis efficiency and ensures consistent output. Replace the electrolyte solution approximately monthly for optimal gas production.

Q. What voltage does the HydroGenie require?

A. The HydroGenie works with both 110/120v 60hz and 220/240v 50hz power supplies—no transformer needed. Please specify your power supply requirements when ordering. This makes the HydroGenie suitable for international use.

Q. What are the three methods of receiving molecular hydrogen?

A. The HydroGenie is a “Triple Threat” device offering three delivery methods:

  • Inhalation: Breathe the gas through a nasal cannula. This is the most efficient method, delivering molecular hydrogen directly to the blood through the lungs where it becomes immediately available for circulation throughout the body.
  • Hydrogen Water Infusion: Use the infusion stone to bubble gas through water, creating hydrogen-rich water for drinking. Molecular hydrogen is available in blood at fingertips in as little as 30 seconds through quick absorption via the stomach lining.
  • Direct Application: Use the application cup to apply gas directly to specific areas such as joints, organs, or brain. This allows localized, concentrated application for targeted support.
Q. How do I use the nasal cannula for inhalation?

A. Simply attach the nasal cannula to the HydroGenie (or to an extension hose), place the prongs in your nostrils, and breathe normally for the duration of your session. The cannula provides comfortable, hands-free delivery during extended sessions. Many users inhale while sleeping, reading, or working, integrating therapy seamlessly into daily routines. The 6-foot extension hose allows comfortable positioning anywhere in a room.

Q. How do I make hydrogen-infused water?

A. Connect the infusion stone to the HydroGenie and place it in a container of water. The gas will bubble through the water, infusing it with molecular hydrogen for drinking. The infusion stone works for any size container. Besides water, you can also infuse other items like coffee, tea, energy drinks, or sports drinks.

Q. What is direct application and how do I use the application cup?

A. Direct application allows you to deliver concentrated gas to specific body areas. Simply place the application cup over the area requiring targeted therapy—joints, organs, skin, or any area needing localized treatment. The gas penetrates tissue directly, offering targeted delivery impossible with water bottles alone. This method has shown particular promise for joint conditions, organ support, skin conditions, and localized pain relief.

Q. What’s the recommended protocol for new users?

A. We recommend starting conservatively and gradually increasing:

  • Drink 2 or more glasses of Hydrogen-infused water daily
  • Inhalation of the gas for 30 minutes morning and evening
  • Apply Hydrogen gas directly to areas of discomfort, as needed

Many users work up to 2-4 hours daily by weeks 3-4, and some eventually use the machine for 4-8 hours based on individual response and conditions. Consistency matters more than duration—regular daily exposure produces better results than sporadic high-dose sessions.

Q. Can I run the HydroGenie continuously?

A. Yes! The HydroGenie is specifically designed for 24/7/365 continuous operation with no cool-down period required. This capability stems from the internal cooling system that maintains optimal operating temperature, medical-grade construction using 316L stainless steel, and alkaline technology optimization designed for steady-state baseload operation.

Q. Can I use the HydroGenie overnight while sleeping?

A. Yes, many users inhale hydrogen overnight while sleeping using the nasal cannula. This allows you to receive the benefits of molecular hydrogen therapy during your body’s natural recovery period without requiring any daytime commitment. The internal cooling system makes this safe and practical.

Q. How often should I clean my HydroGenie?

A. We recommend deep cleaning the HydroGenie per the following schedule for best results, greatest efficiency, and optimum performance: Clean at 30 days of usage, regardless of the time used. Regular cleaning prevents mineral buildup on electrodes and internal surfaces, maintaining efficiency and gas purity.

Q. What’s involved in the cleaning process?

A. The 15-minute monthly cleaning is genuinely simple—add cleaning solution, run the cycle, drain and refill. That’s it. Deep Cleaning Kits are available and include Generator Cleaner powder, Mini-Clean powder, and a fresh packet of HydroGenie Electrolyte. Step-by-step instructions are included in the Operation Manual. Major maintenance (stack overhaul) occurs only every 7-10 years and involves straightforward component replacement with widely available, affordable materials.

Q. What are the annual maintenance costs?

A. Annual maintenance costs are minimal:

  • Monthly cleaning: approximately 15 minutes of your time
  • Electrolyte replacement: approximately $10-20
  • Occasional tubing replacement: approximately $30-50 every 2-3 years
  • Electricity: approximately $50-100 annually for 2 hours daily use

Total: Under $100 per year for professional-grade hydrogen therapy. No hidden costs, no monthly subscriptions, no expensive consumables.

Q. What warranty does the HydroGenie come with?

A. Each HydroGenie is fully warranted for 1 year for electronics components and 3 years for the Hydrogen generator. If your HydroGenie ever needs service, our policy is to upgrade your HydroGenie to the latest operating specifications while it is in our shop for repair. This goes for machines under warranty, or, for a nominal fee, those that you’d like to send back in for cleaning and upgrade service.

Q. Are replacement parts available?

A. Yes! The HydroGenie is infinitely upgradeable—ALL components (including the gas generator) can be replaced, so your initial investment is protected over your lifetime. This means you’re not locked into planned obsolescence. This is professional equipment designed for decade-long service. Accessories and replacement parts including cannulas, infusion stones, application cups, extension hoses, electrolyte packets, and deep cleaning kits are all available in our shop.

Q. Who manufactures the HydroGenie?

A. Hydrogen Research LLC operates as a family-owned American company. We manufacture our HydroGenie and H2 Impact generators right here in America, combining proven alkaline electrolysis technology with American craftsmanship and family-business values. Our staff is certified by the Molecular Hydrogen Institute (MHI), the premier educational organization for hydrogen therapy research and application.

Q. What’s the difference between the HydroGenie and the H2 Impact?

A. Both are professional-grade Brown’s Gas generators with the same “Triple Threat” capabilities. The key difference is output:

  • HydroGenie: Produces up to 850 ml/min of mixed gas (567 ml Hydrogen, 283 ml Oxygen)
  • H2 Impact: Produces up to 1,200 ml/min of mixed gas—50% more than the HydroGenie with immediate maximum output and no warm-up period required

The H2 Impact is ideal for practitioners, multiple users, or individuals requiring maximum therapeutic dosing. Both feature 24/7/365 continuous operation capability, 3-year generator warranty, and identical build quality.

Q. How does the HydroGenie compare to hydrogen water bottles?

A. The HydroGenie and hydrogen water bottles serve fundamentally different purposes:

  • Gas Output: HydroGenie produces 850 ml/min continuous gas; water bottles produce no gas (water infusion only)
  • Runtime: HydroGenie operates 24/7/365 unlimited; water bottles operate in 3-10 minute cycles
  • Lifespan: HydroGenie lasts 60,000-90,000 hours (10-15 years); water bottles last 500-1,000 hours (6-12 months)
  • Applications: HydroGenie offers inhalation, water infusion, and topical application; water bottles offer water infusion only
  • Technology: HydroGenie uses alkaline electrolysis; most water bottles use PEM/SPE technology

Water bottles serve a purpose for convenient hydrogen water on the go, but they cannot deliver therapeutic inhalation dosing, cannot run continuously, and aren’t built for serious health applications requiring extended daily protocols.

Q. Why does the HydroGenie use alkaline electrolysis instead of PEM technology?

A. Alkaline electrolysis offers significant advantages for home therapeutic use:

  • Longer Lifespan: Alkaline electrolyzers achieve 60,000-90,000 hours of operational life compared to 40,000-60,000 hours for PEM—essentially twice the lifespan
  • Lower Maintenance Costs: No expensive platinum-group metal catalysts to replace. PEM systems require iridium catalysts costing $6,000-7,000 per ounce
  • True Brown’s Gas: Alkaline electrolysis produces the complete 2:1 hydrogen-oxygen mixture; PEM separates gases and typically delivers only hydrogen
  • Simple Maintenance: 15-minute monthly cleaning versus filter replacements every 3-6 months with PEM systems
  • Proven Technology: Alkaline electrolysis has a track record dating back over a century as the most mature and reliable method for hydrogen production

Q. Is molecular hydrogen therapy safe?

A. Yes. The safety profile of molecular hydrogen therapy is remarkably favorable across all investigated delivery methods and dosing regimens. Hydrogen is naturally produced in the human body by gut bacteria and is completely non-toxic at therapeutic concentrations. A comprehensive systematic review analyzing 81 clinical trials involving over 1,676 participants found exceptional safety—zero serious adverse events across all studies. The FDA recognizes hydrogen as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS), and deep diving precedent demonstrates that even much higher concentrations of hydrogen have been safely used since 1988. Hydrogen therapy is safe from pediatric to geriatric populations, with no known contraindications with medications or supplements.

Q. Are there any safety precautions I should follow?

A. The HydroGenie is designed with safety in mind. Please follow these guidelines:

  • Only use with 120v (or 220v for international) household power sockets
  • Make sure the HydroGenie unit is on a firm surface during use, such as a table, counter, or floor
  • Use extension hoses to reach the user when they cannot sit at a table or counter near the HydroGenie
